The last flight of Gloster Meteor NF.11 WM167 G-LOSM
Several hours spent at Coventry Airport, the home of De Havilland Vampire T.11, WZ507/74.
I had been given a 'heads up' that the Vampire T.11 was due to fly, it wasn't until the last minute that I also found out that the resident Gloster Meteor NF.11, WM167, was also due to make its last ever flight, as it headed off to its new home at Bruntingthorpe Airfield. WM167 (G-LOSM) is the LAST flying Meteor NF.11 left anywhere in the world.
The aircraft will be kept in ground running condition at Bruntingthorpe, but will, alas, no longer fly, although, as I understand it, its 'Permit to Fly' actually lasts until the end of 2019.
Along with the De Havilland Vampire T.11 & Gloster Meteor NF.11 there was also a surprise visit from an Old Warden based aircraft, namely, a Dornier Do-28A1 Skyservant, N123CA, which belongs to the Shuttleworth Collection, this aircraft would be the camera ship for an air-to-air photoshoot as all three aircraft flew to Bruntingthorpe.
A very sad day indeed but a fantastic opportunity to see these aircraft up close as they prepped for flight & also a last chance to see the beautiful Meteor NF.11 airborne for one last time. The Pilot of the Meteor was Dan Griffiths & Mark Hooton flew the Vampire.
I also grabbed a couple of quick photos of the resident Avro Shackleton MR.2, WR963, during my visit.
